Please pass on my congratulations to the international marketing team for the great campaign they initiated this year. I was extremely impressed with the planning, application, and follow up procedures involved. Looking at the sales figures, there is a strong indication that the campaign had an immediate impact on our market penetration and brand image. Could we ask for a better result?

cafeteria

SAMPLE ANSWER:

This appears to be a cafeteria area. It could be part of a hotel or a business complex. There are very large windows to the left of the scene and they are casting a lot of bright daylight into the cafeteria area. I can see three people in the picture. In the foreground, there are two women who appear to be having a discussion. They could be discussing business or something like that. In the background I could see a man wearing a suit. He could be an executive and he is making a phone call to somebody.

Part C – Question 4-6: Respond to questions

Directions: In this part of the test, you will answer three questions. For each question, begin responding immediately after the question has finished. No preparation time is provided.  You will have 15 seconds to respond to Questions 4 and 5 and 30 seconds to respond to Question 6.

Imagine that an online US company is doing a survey about movies in your country. You have agreed to be part of a telephone survey.

When and where did you last watch a movie?

SAMPLE ANSWER:

The last time I watched a movie was a couple of months ago, maybe two months ago. And I watched it at a major movie theater and I was there with my family—my wife and my son.

#5   (no preparation/ respond immediately; 15 seconds to answer)

What are your favorite kinds of movies?

SAMPLE ANSWER:

My favorite kinds of movies are fantasy and science fiction movies. For example, things like Lord of the Rings and the Matrix and movies like that.

#6   (no preparation/ respond immediately; 30 seconds to answer)

How important is it to monitor the movies that children watch and why?

SAMPLE ANSWER:

I think it’s really important to monitor the kinds of movies that our children watch. The first main reason is that I think there’s a lot of inappropriate material on some TV stations and in some movies. We don’t want our children to be exposed to harmful content. But also, I think with good movies and positive content it’s good for us to see what our children are interested in and it gives us more things to talk about with them.

Part D – Question 7-9: Respond to questions using information provided

Directions: In this part of the test, you will answer three questions based on the information provided. You will have 30 seconds to read the information before the questions begin. For each question, begin responding immediately after you hear the question. For Teacher:

Hi, this is Brian Austin. I haven’t received the itinerary for the business trip to Brisbane on the 30th of September yet. At this stage could you just confirm a couple of details for me?  Could you tell me which airport I will be flying from and what time the flight leaves?

SAMPLE ANSWER:

Hello, Mr. Austin. Looking at your schedule in your itinerary, it says that you’ll be departing from Brisbane airport at 7:40am.

#8   (no preparation/ respond immediately; 15 seconds to answer)

For Teacher:

Mr. Vlamis mentioned wanting to catch up with me while I’m in Brisbane that day. Would that still be possible?

SAMPLE ANSWER:

Let me just check your schedule. Yes, you will definitely have time to catch up with Mr. Vlamis because you are due to have lunch with him at 12:30. And he may also be attending one of your meetings in the afternoon.

# 9   (no preparation/ respond immediately; 30 seconds to answer)

For Teacher:

I know I’m due to have a meeting with Stephanie and Frederick in the afternoon, but I’m curious to know what the rest of the schedule in the afternoon will involve.

SAMPLE ANSWER:

Yes. Just looking at your schedule, after the meeting with Stephanie and Frederick, you have another meeting scheduled for 4 o’clock with Brenda Harris. She’s the manager of Finance and will be discussing next year’s national and state departmental budgets. Following that, you’re due to catch the taxi at 6:00pm back to Brisbane airport and then your flight will depart at 7:30pm back to Avalon airport.

Part E – Question 10: Propose a solution

You have 30 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to speak. In your response, make sure you show that you recognize a problem and propose a way of dealing with the problem.

#10   (30 seconds to prepare; 60 seconds to speak)

For Teacher:

Hello, this is Dale Evans. I recently purchased one of your Techbrite kits for my little son, the police station model?  Unfortunately the kit didn’t come with an instructions manual for putting the kit together. Now I’ve  bought a few Techbrite kits for him before and they’ve always had a full color building manual inside. I’ve already tried to put the kit together myself just  going by the photographs on the kit box.  But it’s almost impossible to get it fully right. Anyway, my son likes to put the models together himself following along to the step by step guide in the manual.  This was his main birthday present this  year so he’s pretty upset for not putting his police station model together – sort of ruined the surprise for him, really.  I hope you’ll be able to do something about this as quickly as possible.  Please call me back. This is Dale Evans 324-6745.

SAMPLE ANSWER:

Hello, This is a message for Mr. Dale Evans. This is Jason Renshaw from Techbrite. I’m returning your call regarding the problem with the Police Station Model Kit that you purchased for your son. First of all, please let me apologize on behalf of the company. It seems that sometimes the instructions manuals don’t always get included with the pieces in the kit. It doesn’t happen very often. It could be a bit of a problem in our assembly line or something like that. In any case we are going to send you a brand new Police Station Model and I will personally check that the instructions are included this time and also, we’ll include a handwritten note there apologizing to your son. I hope that it makes up for some of the problems that you had. And once again, please accept our apologies.

Part F – Question 11: Express an opinion

Directions: In this part of the test, you will give your opinion about a specific topic. Be sure to say as much as you can in the time allowed. You will have 15 seconds to prepare. Then you will have 60 seconds to speak.

#11 (15 seconds to prepare; 60 seconds to speak)

It has been proposed that a new domestic airport should be built quite close to where you live. Do you support or oppose the idea?

SAMPLE ANSWER:

I actually support the proposal to build a new domestic airport close to where I live. And there are a couple of reasons for this. The first reason is that, personally I travel a lot domestically and I usually have to drive a long way to the airport. If the airport’s much closer to me, that would be very convenient for me in terms of travel time. And the other reason is, I think it would be a very good source of employment in our local neighborhood. It would be a good place for younger people to get part time jobs and other people who, you know, there’s not a lot of industry or a lot of job opportunities offered close to where we live. So I think that would be a good place to generate lots of new employment—people working cafeterias and general services, that kind of thing, so that’s why I support the idea.
